‘Tis The Season…

Monday, December 12th, 2011

The Christmas Season is upon us!  We at Colby Design just love the holiday season…it is a whole new reason to create a different look in your home, which is something that every designer loves.  Because you are probably about to (or already have) pulled the decorations out, we want to pass along a holiday decor tip.  Decorate your tree and your space in colors that reflect your room’s color scheme.  That simple concept will transform the whole room (instead of just the corner where your tree is), into something that looks sophisticated and carries a common thread throughout the space.  Below are some examples. Enjoy!

Dressing Your Thanksgiving Table…

Monday, November 14th, 2011

With Thanksgiving around the corner, you are probably scurrying, trying to pull together last minute details for this festive affair.  Maybe you haven’t had time to think about your table setting, yet, and it will be done last minute, or maybe you have been thinking about it for weeks.  Either way, we have found some very simple ways to dress your Thanksgiving table, wow your guests with understated seasonal flair, and at least look like you’ve been planning all along!

Fun with Ikat…

Monday, October 10th, 2011

“Ikat is the extraordinary silk fabric woven throughout Central Asia.  Each strand is individually dyed, then woven into stunning, vibrant patterns which are recognized from village to village. “

-Central Asia Institute

While Ikat is a traditional method of weaving fabrics that has been around for centuries, it is being given new life continuously through fabric designers worldwide.  It can be a great way to throw in a bold dose of color or fun to any space.  Check out some of our Ikat finds below.

A New Take On Something Old…

Monday, August 15th, 2011

Check out this Klismos dining chair by Scala Luxury.  It is cast out of brass and then polished to a high sheen, with a woven leather seat…and we at Colby Design think that it is to die for!  It is luxurious and sophisticated.  This chair could be that unexpected “pop” for a traditional space, or a slick way to dine in the most modern of Austin homes.  If you are interested in this chair, or other pieces by Scala Luxury, give us a call!

Can you imagine living in a 12 x 12 home?  Most of us think it is laughable (the idea may even make you squirm in your seat), but for Dianna and Michael Lorence, it is heaven on earth.  No electricity or running water…just the sunlight that nature has bestowed upon us and firelight in this home.  Although this beautifully simple life is not for everyone, I would hope that you could agree with us on how serene the nature of this home really is.

Outdoor by Firelight…

Wednesday, June 22nd, 2011

Is there such a thing more romantic than firelight or candles?  Fireplaces are an amazing design feature that can add such drama to your outdoor living spaces.  They are cozy and invite us to simply relax in their presence.  Look at some of the inspiring ways that we found to introduce fireplaces into your home.

A True Modern Haven.

Designer Steve Hermann has created something that seems to defy the laws of physics in this modern home in Montecito, California.  Most of the home’s walls are glass, and both the flooring and the semi-freestanding wall, clad in book-matched marble, seem to flow effortlessly from the indoors out.  Along the same lines, the outdoors pour into the floor to ceiling windows, creating natural and living art everywhere you look.  This breath-taking home is art first, then a residence.

Sicis Next Art…Not For Wall Flowers.

Wednesday, June 1st, 2011

Sicis is an mosaic tile  and furniture company, whose product lines are much more art than merely mosaic tiles.  They are bold and “out there” – perfect for luxury hospitality or an unexpected punch of glitz for the home.  The designs are wildly intricate, and create awe when implemented on a large scale.  While these designs may be too over the top for you Austin residence, we at Colby Design appreciate them for what they are…unique and beautiful!
